Events & Tents will begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, with breakfast and event design duo Richard Carbotti and his son, Jordan, who will present the morning session called “Color Trends and Inspiration: From the Tried and True to the Imagination and Beyond.”

Carbotti says the session will include some information on the history and background of color and styles, new uses and impact on clients. “Everyone has the power to predict trends, but also we all have the knowledge to make things happen. That’s the underlying message when we talk about color and style,” he says.

Carbotti, founder and design director, Perfect Surroundings, Newport, R.I., has been a part of the event industry for more than 30 years. He graduated from the Parsons School of Design in Manhattan and Syracuse University, but it was the Navy that brought him to Newport, R.I., with his wife, Pat.

Jordan is production manager at Perfect Surroundings, and Carbotti’s younger son, Evan, also is employed with the company, a turn of events not even Carbotti foresaw when he began the business.

“I started this company 30 years ago and never expected to involve my children. Now my sons, Jordan, 33, and Evan, 29, work with me and they are passionate about it. I always was a conceptual producer. As we have progressed in the past eight years, my sons became partners. It seems more and more they are coming to me with choices and I pick the best choice,” Carbotti says.

A full lineup of educational sessions in the morning starts at 9 a.m. with “Building a Presence for Your Business,” a rental industry panel; “Handling and Prolonging the Life of Your Linens,” a rental industry panel; and “A Planner’s Perspective: Working Together,” a rental industry panel.

A new demo session this year will be “Product Demonstration: Secure Your Tents With Confidence,” a half-day session including a rental industry panel and outdoor demonstration.

At 10:30 a.m., education sessions will continue, including “Marketing and Selling to Brides at Every Wedding Planning Phase,” with Susan Southerland, Perfect Wedding Guide, Lake Mary, Fla.; “Caring For, Handling and Storing Your Product Investments,” a rental industry panel; and “The Eclectic Event Designed,” with the Carbottis.
