In celebration of Armed Forces Day in mid-May, The Venetian and The Palazzo in Las Vegas hosted a special “Salute Our Troops” weekend with the Armed Forces Foundation. This marked the seventh time Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, chairman and CEO of the Las Vegas Sands, have hosted wounded veterans for the special weekend. The company has hosted more than 600 veterans and their guests as part of the patriotic celebrations.
A video highlighting the weekend was posted onto The Palazzo’s YouTube page on Memorial Day and can be viewed here.
The veterans arrived by police motorcade and were greeted with the cheers of more than 400 Venetian and Palazzo team members before arriving in the atrium for a welcome ceremony. Students sang the National Anthem while the Nellis Air Force Base Honor Guard presented the colors.
The veterans were flown in from San Antonio Military Medical Center on behalf of Southwest Airlines and enjoyed three nights of accommodations, spa and salon treatments, tickets to Blue Man Group and Madame Tussauds, and an evening at TAO Nightclub. Omaha Steaks hosted a cookout for the service members and their families and presented them with gift packages.
